When starting the process, the welding tool is positioned at the programmed starting point of the welding path.
Under rotation the welding pin of the tool is pressed into the material until the shoulder rests. Due to the resulting frictional heat the material is plasticized into a kneadable condition.
While maintaining the rotation, the welding tool can be led along the welding path. Depending on the size of the welding pin a close-grained connection area made out of both components is created.
The pressure applied by the welding shoulder in the connecting area compresses the material. Because of the small heat input and the purely mechanical process excellent connection properties can be achieved.
At the end of the path the tool is lifted off. Following work pieces can be welded immediately afterwards.
